A call to joyful, mindless fun. Maybe.

by Todd Foley

The past few weeks have found me working two full-time jobs: Editing from 9 to 5 and then finalizing the production details of my novel – plus all the social gatherings that come with summer. I felt tired. Spent. Constantly counting down the days till I go on vacation.

That’s when I have to ask myself: Do I really want to go through my life checking off the days on a calendar?

“Instead of wondering when your next vacation is, maybe you ought to set up a life you don’t need to escape from.”
Seth Godin

It’s amazing how my mopey perception can be altered through a little laughter. I’m thankful that there’s hardly a day without laughter in my house. This may be a bit biased, but I am married to the funniest woman on the planet [she could give Ellen a run for her money]. Laughter keeps us from taking ourselves too seriously. It fills our home with joy when life’s circumstances bombard us with uncertainty.

I recently stumbled across a video [below the jump] of compiled footage from people from of all different ages, sizes and colors, setting aside their inhibitions for the sake of mindless fun. Nothing flashy, nothing sexy. Just fun. Yes, it may or may not be inspired by that song you’ve had your head for months (maybe?), yet they seemed to be overwhelmed by joy.

Joy is hard to ignore. Maybe that’s because joy is so contagious.

This weekend – whether you’re away on vacation or at home – let yourself catch that joyful bug. Have fun with the people you love. We all could use a little more fun in our day-to-day lives. Do it for the sake of joy. Maybe.
