Who would direct the film version of your story?
by Todd Foley
Yes, the book is almost always better than the movie. Yet I’ll likely go see it if it’s based off a book I love.
I’m a huge fan of minimalism and aimed to achieve this in Eastbound Sailing, my upcoming novel. For that reason, I would have to choose artist-turned-director Steve McQueen.
I recently watched Hunger, his 2008 directorial debut. It’s a brutally beautiful story, but what I found most impacting was McQueen’s minimalist style and long, uncut takes. A great example of the latter was a 20-minute segment with only two takes, about 10 minutes each. No back-and-forth editing. This raw, unfiltered scene made me feel as though I was sitting right there on the set. It was an incredibly human experience.
What about you? Who would direct the film version of your book or still-to-be-written story?
